Fun Day

Posted: Updated:

Temperatures brought plenty of people down to river today, but if the beach wasn't an option, a day at a carnival isn't too shabby either.

Residents of the Good Samaritan Society had a little fun in the sun today. The senior living community hosted a carnival. They had everything from cotton candy and popcorn to  games and prizes. They even had a photo booth.

Volunteers helped make the event a success. And one volunteer brought some special skills to his booth.  Elijah Mayer has been making balloon animals for three years.

I feel pretty good about it," says Elijah Mayer, a volunteer for Fun Day. "I've gotten a lot of smiles from the residents. They all say, 'Oh, that's so cute. Can I have one?'"

Elijah is a familiar face at the Good Samaritan Society. In fact, He and his sister visit residents every week.

"We come every week and make cards, and play UNO, do puzzles and things like that with the residents," says Mayer.

And while it's his sister who's sporting a rainbow wig today…

I would like to become a clown someday and make lots of balloon animals and have people smile at me a lot," says Mayer.

And he's already putting his skills to work… making balloon animals for friends.

Volunteers from Pepsi helped man the booths, and the company provided free soda and water for the event.
