Softball Fundraiser

Posted: Updated:

Softball players hit the field today to not only play the game they love, but to help one of their own.

"The worst part of it all was that he had his softball pants hanging on the shower for his game on Tuesday," says Todd Zimmerman's daughter Kylee Zimmerman. "And I walked into his house and saw his pants hanging there and that was rock bottom for me."

Todd Zimmerman has played softball his entire life. But in June, he broke two vertebrae in his neck in a diving accident, leaving him paralyzed from the shoulders down. Today, friends and family gathered at Clem Kelly Softball Complex to raise money for medical expenses. Twelve teams signed up for the softball tournament and others gave free-will donations at the gate.
His daughter says she is thankful for the support and she hopes to see him back on the field next year.

"He's an amazing ball player," says Zimmerman. "And we've all been saying from day one since this has been planned that next year he'll be here playing with us. He was upset that he didn't get to play in his McQuade's tournament this year, but he says and we all say that he'll be in it next year."

Teams donated $150 to play. And several local companies donated raffle prizes.
