Burli-MOT half marathon

Posted: Updated:

Humid weather and gloomy skies didn't stop runners from hitting the roads in Ward County earlier today.

Today was the second annual Burli-MOT half marathon.  The race began in Burlington's Old Settlers Park and ended at Oak Park in Minot, The largest running event in the area.  More than 250 runners from across North Dakota, surrounding states and even Canada turned out for the 13 mile race.  With a growing number of runners in Ward County, there was a need for a longer distance race like this one.

"The new people coming into the community, I think they come from more of a running culture, so they expect to have that," says Race Director, Connie Feist. "We've always had a core group of Minot runners. The Air Force Base typically brings in a lot of runners, so as our community grows so does the running community.

"I like it, the little 5k's that they have every weekend, it's nice, nice tune up races to make sure you're still in shape, gives you some speed work, so it's nice," says Kyle Sturdefant, BurliMOT men's first place finisher.

Sturdefant defended his first place finish last year with a time this year of 1:16:54.  The fastest men and woman received 500 dollars for finishing first.
