Red Cross Help in Minot

Posted: Updated:

While the Minot community has made great strides in its recovery effort, two years later, residents are still working to rebuild from the 2011 Mouse River flood.  But their weekends have been made a little easier, thanks to the Red Cross.

For the past two summers, the local Red Cross chapter has driven throughout the community handing out water, snacks and sandwiches to people working on their homes.  Today the KMOT crew showed up to help out during the last weekend of the Red Cross meal program.  On average, the Red Cross and their volunteers have handed out 200 sandwiches per weekend, along with more than 30,000 meals and snacks since starting the program.

"We try to cover the city well," says Red Cross Volunteer, Gary Ellingson. "People are a little more scattered, but there's still spots in amongst all the homes that are restored where people are still working, and we still try to get into them and help them out."

KMOT will be back out on the streets with the Red Cross tomorrow for the last day of the 2013 summer meal program.  But the Red Cross is always looking for volunteers, so if you're interested in helping out, contact them at 701 - 852 - 2828.
