Stylist Cuts Hair to Help Humane Society

Posted: Updated:

As any pet owner knows, it costs money to take care of a pet. Multiply that by dozens and you might have some idea what the Central Dakota Humane Society is up against. But a well-traveled hair stylist made a stop in North Dakota to raise money for the shelter.

Patrick Lomantini isn't your typical hairstylist.

"Four years ago, I did a world record, and I cut hair for 72 consecutive hours," says Lomantini.

But more than just a good haircut inspires him.

"I've always had a passion and love for what humane societies and shelters do," says Lomantini.

The Kansas native was in Bismarck today for his nationwide haircut campaign that supports animals in need.

"I literally travel to all fifty states doing fifty haircuts in each of the states doing it all in fifty days to bring awareness and raise money for shelters all across the country," says Lomantini.

The money for the event in our state goes to the Central Dakota Humane Society. The shelter serves Bismarck and Mandan.

"We are a non-profit organization so we're always struggling to make ends meet. We have 50 dogs and 70 cats at all times, sometimes even a few more than that," says Mandy Schaaf, Central Dakota Humane Society.

The event has been held at the City Looks Salon in the Kirkwood Mall for the past three years. The minimum donation is twenty dollars. And all that money goes to the humane society.

"We need the money to take care of the animals. Their medical care, their food, just the basic needs of the animals that live out at the shelter," says Schaaf.

Lomantini says he wanted to stand out from other hairstylists with this event and support a cause he strongly cares about.

"This is really neat because it connects so many people with a common cause. Everybody could use a great haircut and there's lots of animal lovers out there and they all want to support the various shelters in their community," says Lomantini.

The next fundraiser for the Central Dakota Humane Society is this Sunday at Raging Rivers Water Park.

Raging Rivers Water Park will allow dogs of all sizes to swim in its Lazy River on Sunday. There will also be food, giveaways, and an alumni parade with adopted pets from the humane society. And tonight, Lomantini will be giving haircuts at City Looks until 8 p.m.
