Students Attend International Powwow

Posted: Updated:

Students and their teachers were smiling today at the United Tribes International Powwow.

It was the annual Powwow's Youth Day. And area schools were invited to participate in a day full of fun and educational activities. Many demonstrations, such as traditional native dancing and drum playing, are given to teach kids about Native American Culture.

"Youth day I believe is all about bringing in children from the surrounding areas to see what our culture is all about  so they learn first hand, we have people come in and do the dances and explain why they dance that way and what each of their steps mean," says Youth Day coordinator Shiela Netterville.

About $1,000 kids attended Youth Day earlier today.
