State Capitol Hosts Pride of Dakota Day

Posted: Updated:

Food, condiments, decorations, jewelry and art are just a few of the products could be found at the state Capitol, but some seemed to stand out from the rest.

"These are my bling and thing holders they're real high heels that I've taken and stuffed and basically re-purposed high heels shoes, so that they can fit your jewelry or such things." says Susan Beehler.

Beehler got the idea to make shoes into useful organizers when she saw a huge shoe sale at the State Fair, and she has been busy making them ever since.

"To keep up my stock to go to all the different pride of Dakota shows I usually make 20-40 a week," says Beehler.

Beehler has been a member of Pride of Dakota for more than three years, and she says it's a great asset to her company. She also uses these events to sell her jewelry, which she says all have a piece of North Dakota in them.

"I've compared it with components, so it makes a unique north Dakota gift, such as the Indian chief buffalo head nickel, and a bison and a little feather and then I package it with a little native American story" says Beehler.

The one of a kind jewelry and re-purposed shoes drew customers to  the booth.

"it's fascinating, I like the designs that she has the variety," says Sshyrll Lindtigen.

Beehler's products were nominated  and are currently competing in Martha Stewart's American Made Contest , which features a grand prize of ten thousand dollars to the winning entrepreneur.
