Downtowners Host 40th Annual Street Fair

Posted: Updated:

Downtown Bismarck is busy today as hundreds of people have come out to the 40th Annual Street Fair hosted by the Downtowners' Association. It kicked off early this morning. And since then, people have been coming and going all day, exploring all the different vendors that came out this year.

Each year hundreds of people head downtown to see what the street fair have to offer and this year was no different.

"People have been coming out in droves kind of. So we've loved seeing so many people coming out and visiting downtown," says Dawn Kopp, Downtowners' Association.

One of those vendors is Julissa Hanson, who makes dresses and tutu's, inspired by her girls.

"My girls dance so I was looking for just a little supplemental income to kind of help with their competition fees and things like that. They were wearing tutu's at the time for dance so it just went together," says Julissa Hanson.

And it's also something she can do with her girls.

"It's fun doing the shows together. They're in school today but we have other shows that they help me with and even just making the product together. It's bonding and memories and I also like that they're learning work ethic," says Hanson.

Another vendor sells chairs that she paints herself after finding them at garage sells and consignment stores.

"Probably the most popular ones I have are the ones with zebra prints or lots of bold colors and kid chairs. Which are a little bit harder to find because they usually get broken or ruined and I don't buy them new," says Margo Haskins.

She says she's been making them for about ten years and attends one or two shows a year.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary, the Downtowners' Association is playing Back to the Future at 8 p.m. on the Burleigh County Courthouse Lawn. The street fair will continue tomorrow from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.
