Civic Center Hosts Sportsman's Expo

Posted: Updated:

Hunters across the state are strapping up their boots and loading up their trucks as grouse season starts tomorrow. But some are still looking for new boots and vehicles, and a sportman's expo in Bismarck this weekend might be able to help.

From off-road vehicles to animal decoys, the Civic Center has a little something for every outdoorsman.

"We have vendors ranging from ATVs, snowmobiles, ice houses, bows, guns, guides, fishing, you name it," says event coordinator Kristi Kraft.

It's the first Puklich Chevrolet North Dakota Sportsman's Expo, and vendors came from across the Midwest to show off their latest gear.

"This one is geared towards fall and winter sports which we're really known for, you know waterfowl, hunting, archery, all of these things that go on here, all of our guide services and lodges, lakes and rivers, this is what we do in North Dakota. It's so popular, people come from everywhere," says Kraft.

One of those people is the owner of Prairie Hunting Blinds, which is one of only three companies in the U.S. making these kinds of blinds. And he's the only one using real hay.

"They're just made to look like a natural, round bale sitting out in the open fields to fit in in the Midwest and to keep hunters warm and dry in that windy South Dakota and North Dakota conditions," says Adam Derrick.

But this expo doesn't just have vendors, it also has educational opportunities for adults and children.

"It's educational. All day tomorrow, too, will be seminars starting at 9:30 with Jason Mitchell," says Kraft.

And visitors to the expo say no matter what your outdoor interests are, you'll be able to find something at this event.

The expo continues Saturday from nine a-m to five p-m. Tickets for the expo are $3.00, but all children twelve and under are free.
