Woman Photographs Fifty States

Posted: Updated:

Whether it's for a change of scenery or for work, people have been traveling to North Dakota for many different reasons. And one Minot resident is on a quest to find out exactly where these visitors are coming from. And she's doing it in a unique way.

It all started with her daughter's idea to see all fifty license plates around Minot.  But, Betty Nordstrom decided to take that idea a step further.

"I think I'll shoot all the license plates and I thought it would take very little time because everywhere you go you see license plates," says Nordstrom.

But her project ended up turning into a two year scavenger hunt around Minot. The first week she started the hunt, she snapped about 30 plates easily.

"But I stuck with it. And, I can almost tell you all the colors of every license plate," says Nordstrom.

By the end of this summer, she had just two states left, Connecticut and Vermont.

"All of a sudden I saw a Vermont license plate going down Broadway. My husband was driving; I had my cell phone; not my good camera, but I just hollered 'Vermont!'" says Nordstrom.

She did get a little help from a friend with the Connecticut plate.

"But, bless her heart, I have all 50 states,"says Nordstrom.

Nordstorm says her collection wouldn't be complete until she snaps the last picture herself.

When asked if her next plan was to visit all of the states, she said, "Oh, that's a good idea. I'll go home and tell my husband right now."

If you know where to find a vehicle with a Connecticut license plate, call Nordstrom at 701-240-9955.
