Dickinson Expo

Posted: Updated:

Business is booming in Dickinson. That's why Brooke Ouellette decided to open up her own store in the Prairie Hills Mall.

"It was always my dream to have a store and obviously Dickinson is growing so this is a good place to do it," says store owner Brooke Ouellette.

She opened her store, Out of Town, two years ago when she was fresh out of college. She was at the Dickinson Expo on Saturday to show people just how good the shopping can be in the city.

"I think people coming here and seeing all the options that you can get here in Dickinson keeps people shopping in Dickinson," says Ouellette. "It's good to show people what they can get locally."

And local businesses were definitely showing off what they have to offer.

"There's a lot of different places here and we've been very happy to see all the different people and all the different businesses available," says expo shopper Kelli Beckman.

There's a lot that's different at this year's expo. This is the first year it's been in the new Astoria Hotel and Event Center.

"Before, it was called a women's expo," says Dickinson Press publisher Harvey Brock. "But what we found out is that more and more men are cooking. More and more men are into home decor and such. So, we just opened it up to everybody this year."

And there's more than just vendors. This year, the event includes seminars and informational booths.

"We just hope we have a good time. We really appreciate the police department doing the self-awareness seminar, some good information to improve people's lives. It's of what we do at the Press," says Brock.
