Last night a new Miss America was crowned, but not everyone has been happy about who won.
For the second year in a row, Miss New York has won the Miss America title and this year that is Nina Davuluri.
Former Miss North Dakota Ariana Walker, says she was excited to see Miss New York win the crown.
"Being someone that has been in that position where you're getting called for top 15, it's a nerve wracking experience. It's really a long process of getting to that final night of crowning. You just have to be excited for that girl that wins because she really does have a great year ahead of her," says Walker.
But Davuluri's year is getting off to a rocky start. She's the first Indian American to win the title and some people aren't happy about it.
On Twitter one person wrote "# MissAmerica should just be called # MissTerrorist." another tweeted "9/11 was 4 days ago and she gets miss America?"
Cultural Advisor Prairie Rose Seminole says, "It's absolutely fresh in peoples mind but it's also extremely ignorant to say that she's Arab or Muslim or a terrorist. Especially when it comes across as she's from New York, she's Indian American and so folks are really showing their true colors and ignorance and showing their uninformed."
She says instead people should be happy that more people of different backgrounds and race are getting into and winning the pageant.
Seminole adds, "Any woman of color is really again moving the dial and forging the way for young women to say hey, she looks like me and I can do that too."
During her rein as Miss America over the next year Davuluri will face these issues head on as she promotes her platform of celebrating diversity.
Last year the first African American was crowned in North Dakota, Rosie Sauvageau competed in the Miss America Pageant representing North Dakota.
