Android vs. iOS: The Smartphone War

Posted: Updated:

The next stage of the Smartphone war has been set with the release of the iPhone 5S.  But in the competition between Android and iOS operating systems, the two have never been more equal.

A 2012 study by Kantar World-panel showed that Android had a 10 percent sales advantage over it's Apple Competitor for the year.  But Apple is making moves to close the gap.  Just yesterday the company released the 7th version of its iOS system, which adds features like a new control center and multi-tasking screen, features similar to those of Android phones.  But for most customers at the end of the day, it comes down to brand loyalty,

"A lot of people have just been sticking with Apple for a long time.  A lot of people come in and they just want the iPhone because that's what they've always had.  They are good phones, but they haven't changed a whole lot over time.  It seems like they change one or two things, then come out with a new phone," says sales assoiciate Hayden Hall, Cellular Communications.

Google's Android platform has already reached one billion activations, while Apple's iOS is set to hit that mark in 2014.  Tomorrow the world will see how the release of the new iPhone 5S will affect the war between the two systems.
