Main Street Minute: Dakota Market

Posted: Updated:

Whether it's grab and go or a sit down meal, businesses need to think about the style they're going to offer for their customers. If you drive on South Broadway, you'll find a new deli market. Not only is the food fresh, the atmosphere is something to see. In this week's Main Street Minute, KMOT's Sarahbeth Ackerman checked out Dakota Market, the new sub and deli shop in the Magic City.

Owner of Dakota Market, Melissa Williams used to have her own restaurant, but after moving to Minot two years ago, she decided it was time to start another business.

"I found this little space, and I had to put something in that fit," says Williams.

Her original plan was to have a walk in sub shop where customers could have a grab and go experience. But once she started designing, she realized she had more to work with.

"But then I realized I had room for a few tables. So, now we can seat 16 people," says Williams.

Between the tables and the wall, it took about 2 months to complete the design at Dakota Market. But here's the cool part, she designed the wall by herself.

"I just happened to be by a big pile of pallets on the way home. And, of course, we all know we could do a lot of creative things with pallets. So, I went ahead and collected about 50," says Williams.

With a creative eye and fresh food, Williams is hoping for a successful business. Dakota Market offers a variety of cold and hot sandwiches. They offer soup and salad of the day and even catering. And this Thursday at 11 a.m. there will be a grand opening event where you can stop on by for food tastings and free prizes.

They're located at 2808 S. Broadway in Minot.
