Regional Task Force Focuses on Impaired Driving

Posted: Updated:

Alcohol isn't the only drug that can impair your driving. And officers in Southwest North Dakota will be teaming up to try and stop it.

It's not just drunk driving in the southwestern part of the state, law enforcement is seeing a lot of impaired driving from prescription drugs and other narcotics.

Throughout the month of October, the Dickinson Police Department will assist the State Highway Patrol and the Stark County Sheriff's Department during DUI checkpoints.  They'll be stopping drivers they think could be drunk or impaired by drugs.

Dickinson police say this regional task force is all about getting more officers on the roads.

"Man power becomes an issue. So we assist the Highway Patrol by giving them an officer or two to assist with stopping the vehicles and doing the sobriety checks," says Captain David Wilkie.
