UPDATE: Child of Minnesota Viking Adrian Peterson Beaten to Death

Posted: Updated:

The two-year-old son of the Minnesota Viking's start running back Adrian Peterson has died from injuries sustained in an aggravated assault on Wednesday. Our affiliate KSFY-TV in Sioux Falls, South Dakota says Adrian Peterson's son was allegedly beaten by the man dating the mother of his child.

Sioux Falls Police say they responded with EMS to a call for a medical emergency on Wednesday night.  When they arrived, they found the child unresponsive and rushed him to an area hospital.

At the time of the incident, the child was being watched by Joseph Robert Patterson, 27.  Police say no one else was in the home at the time. While at the hospital and during treatment, police learned the child had injuries that were consistent with abuse.

Police in Sioux Falls arrested Patterson, who's been charged with aggravated felony assault and battery of an infant.

Bond for Patterson was set at $750,000. Lincoln County State's Attorney Wollman says he is also seeking to revoke two suspended sentences against Patterson. One for simple assault and the other for violating a domestic abuse bond agreement.
