Entrepreneurs Find Success in Natural Products

Posted: Updated:

Sales of natural products are now growing at twice the rate of conventional ones, and they're sold in places from supermarkets to specialty shops. Entrepreneurs have found that creating something all natural can be a money maker.

From body lotion to mouse repellant, companies have found ways to make everyday necessities out of natural materials. A consumer and trade site called New Hope Natural Media says more entrepreneurs are finding success in natural products.

"I think people are becoming more concerned about their health and about the environment and when you do that you start looking at labels and what's in those products and when you do that you also question the necessity of them being in these products and with that education comes peoples willingness to pay a little bit more for natural products," says Fresh Cab founder Kari Block.

Sales of natural products are growing twice as fast as conventional ones and despite increased competition in the industry, the reason companies develop these products often hit close to home.

"My favorite part about being in the natural product industry is that I'm helping people in everyday life deal with skin conditions or just transform their life into a better lifestyle for them and their family," says Daisy Blue Naturals Distributor Britni Carlson.

Carlson has been with Daisy Blue Naturals for two years, and says she has seen the interest and sales of the company increase. Block, inventor of an all natural mouse repellant, says it isn't easy to start a company.

"Well, there's a lot of joys that go along with being an entrepreneur about 95 percent of it is really hard work, roll up your sleeves and do the stuff nobody else wants to."

Block's products are now sold by 20,000 retailers nationwide and she says she has increased her employees from 4 to 45.

In the first six months of this year, venture capitalists invested more than $57 million in natural product companies.
