Inside Business: Realtor Training

Posted: Updated:

Average sales for residential properties in the Bismarck-Mandan market are up eleven percent from last year, and new technology is helping realtors connect with buyers from all over the country. In this week's Inside Business, Jim Christianson got a look at what realtors are doing to connect with clients.

Like every industry, technology has affected real estate, which is why the Bismarck/Mandan Board of Realtors invited G. William James from Atlanta. James is teaching a mobile technology and cloud computing workshop for area agents.

Association executive Nancy Deichart says mobile computing is become more and more valuable to agents who are frequently on the move showing properties, and the classes have been well received.

"Working in the cloud particularly, in the google universe is the focus of some of the classes," says Deichart.

Marketing locally and globally from just one mobile device.

"Realtors don't make any money sitting behind a desk so if you're out in your market area you still have all the tools that you would need to meet your clients needs," says James.

James was also teaching the realtors not only how to focus on the needs of local buys but also those on the international scale. All politics may be local , but real estate sales is becoming more of  global business, as technology shrinks our world and makes it easier to connect with out of state buyers.

"We've recognized now that we have investors from all over the world who are now buying into real estate in the U.S and to be able to buy a ranch from Italy for example is a very easy process not but for am Italian investor to be able to find a local realtor would be the process of the local realtor making themselves globally recognizable," says James.

James says that the technology available for realtors here in Bismarck-Mandan is no different then what is used in larger markets like New York City, Boston or Atlanta. And the beauty is, you can carry it around in your pocket.

One of new pieces of technology realtors will be using is an electronic lock box that can be unlocked using a Bluetooth device.
