Consulting Company Presents Plans for Downtown Revitalization Project

Posted: Updated:

Stantec Consulting received lots of input from the public regarding Downtown Revitalization, especially one key factor.

"One thing we heard when we started this planning process, a lot of people don't know where downtown Minot is," says John Slack, Stantec.

So, after putting together feedback and studying the downtown area, the firm put together two plans -- both defining the edges of downtown.

"We talked to a lot of residents that live in Minot and they essentially said we never go downtown, we don't know where it is. I think one of the key goals was to really reach out and bring people in the downtown. So, how do we do that? We do it through marketing, through a well designed public ground; we do it through creating events in the downtown, and public open spaces in the downtown," says Slack.

Both concepts plan to improve parking, expand retail activity and create a riverfront park system.

One of the goals for the final plan is to incorporate pedestrian paths, to make accessing downtown easier for residents.
