Mott Teacher Celebrates 50 Years in Education

Posted: Updated:
James Glasser is a man of few words.

However, school board officials, the Department of Public Instruction, and Mott-Regent students and faculty had no problems singing his praises.

Glasser has taught thousands of students in North Dakota. Starting in Rhame back in 1964, then Regent for 14 years, to Washburn for 17, and now in Mott-Regent for the last 14 years; with no plans of retiring.

James Glasser says, "(it's) because I've had so few problems in all 50 years. I've always had the most wonderful kids."

Mott-Regent decided to honor Glasser's 50th year with a school wide celebration with some special guests.

State Superintendent Kirsten Baesler says, "I think the community. the fact that there were so many community members here. To help Mr. Glasser celebrate. His former principal, the school board president, is a former student of his. Again, such a fine example of what we're all about in North Dakota and our schools across the state."

Baesler presented Glasser with a certificate of excellence. Three of his senior students said they were excited to attend the ceremony.

Jaycie Honeyman says,"Oh, it's pretty awesome. It's really amazing to see how he's managed to put up with all of us for that long. Even my dad had him in school."

"Science isn't really my forte. But he makes learning science so much easier and so it makes me be a lot more willing to learn. And understand things a lot more easily. And it makes us trust him and want to learn, and we do learn," says Alyssa Olin.

Cassandra Johnson adds, "And every now and then, he'll just have like a little random outburst of just something. Just random! It'll be funny or it'll scare us. Something weird like that. It makes this class so unpredictable and fun."

Even Glasser's parents were able to attend the event and watch him receive the award.
