Rec Center Ahead of Schedule

Posted: Updated:

In just about six months, people in Williston and the surrounding areas are going to be able to use the brand new rec center.

The last time we took you inside the building, the roof was going on, and ground work for the pool area was just finishing up.

Now the pools are in, and all the rooms in the building are starting to look like a finished product.

Between 100 and 150 people are working  six and seven day weeks on the rec, which has put construction ahead of schedule. The fast pace is allowing contractors to stay under budget.

"The longer the building takes the more money you're going to use in your budget, so that's how we're maintaining the building being done sooner," says General Superintendent Bob Laumann.

Negative temperatures are coming up, so crews are getting as much work done outside as they can.

"We're putting in all the landscaping. First course of the parking lots went in last week, and we're striping parking lots today," added Laumann.

Inside, frame work for the pools are in, and now workers are putting the tiles in, and stripping the pools. Over in the gym, basketball hoops are going in, and the track is more or less done, except for the flooring. Next are the finishes.

"The interior finishes of the building itself. A lot of the painting, a lot of your interior wood work, doors, hardware, and gym floor will be taken place over the next couple of months," Laumann added.

The projected finish date is March 21st, but the park board is moving in before that.

"A lot if the areas are ahead of schedule, and we'll start moving the park board in, come January 1st on some of these areas," added Laumann.

Laumann says about 85 percent of the sheet rock is up in the building, and crews will start painting soon.
