Minot YWCA Looking for Community Support

Posted: Updated:

The YWCA, Minot's only women's shelter, has been part of the community since 1915.  They have given back to 8 counties in north central North Dakota for almost a decade, but now, they're looking for the community's support.

Today the YWCA held a membership drive and open house.  Memberships are one of the main sources of funding for the shelter, and those memberships help the YWCA continue to offer emergency shelter beds, resources and assistance, and seven permanent supportive housing apartments.

"Membership is vital to operations in general at our facility," says Dena Penton, Executive Director Minot YWCA Shelter. "It helps operate the shelter and all the programs that we serve here, including our permanent, supportive housing program.  Donations and memberships are pretty much how we function. We sometimes get grants, but donations and memberships are key."

If you're interested in becoming a member, or donating to the YWCA, visit their website at ywcaminot.org.
