Game and Fish Continues to Check Deer for Disease

Posted: Updated:

Deer rifle hunting season starts a week from today, and the Game and Fish Department wants hunters to help them find disease in big game.

Game and Fish is continuing its Hunter-Harvested Surveillance program this year. It's encouraging hunters to bring deer heads to collection sites across the state. Deer will then be tested for chronic wasting disease and bovine tuberculosis. Hunters can also bring in elk and moose heads.

"The testing is very important. We've had very good cooperation from sportsmen in the past along with meat processors, people that have been helping us collect the heads from sportsmen. So the effort has been very worthwhile and we're again asking for people's assistance," says Jeb Williams.
