USS North Dakota Christened

Posted: Updated:

The soon-to-be commissioned USS North Dakota reached another milestone this morning. The submarine was christened in Groton, Connecticut. We spoke with committee chairman Bob Wefald earlier today on the phone and he told us about today's ceremony.

"It was absolutely wonderful," says Wefald. "The submarine's in the water. It was in a flooded dry dock and they had all the sailors standing on the submarine with the speaker's platform built on the submarine. They had crowds on either side. They had a number of speakers, all of whom did a nice job, and then to top it off, Katie Fowler climbed up these steps towards the top of the sail and the Governor Dalrymple watching and the president of the ship yard. She hit that bottle of champagne and christened it North Dakota. A big horn went off and it was just a spectacular day. We were all pumped."

The submarine will be commissioned on May 31st, and for more information you can visit www.U-S-S-N-D.com.
