Gardening through the Winter

Posted: Updated:

With another North Dakota winter fast approaching, it's important to find ways to battle the winter blues.

To help fight seasonal depression, Lowe's Garden Center in Minot recommends filling your home with plants this winter. Creating small indoor gardens can help brighten a room, purify the air, and add much needed moisture to dry indoor air.

"Having some live plants in the home can add humidity, can help clean stale air, and can also help give a sense of hope for Spring, even in the depths of winter," says Lowe's employee, James Lowe. "Some good plants for that would be spider plants, snake plants, both of those are listed on several websites as being air purifiers.  Most add that humidity, but there are several other types of plants that work well, depending on your lighting conditions."

Seasonal depression can cause symptoms like over-sleeping and eating, lack of energy and withdrawals from friends and family.
