Charity Ball Helps Fund New Hospital

Posted: Updated:

For many in southwest North Dakota, St. Joseph's Hospital in Dickinson is the closest place to receive emergency and specialized care. Administrators say they hope an annual fundraiser will help raise money to add even more services.

St. Joseph's Charity Ball usually funds specialized equipment, but this year the money will be helping to build a new facility.

"The next major hospital is 100 miles away, so to travel 99 miles or 100 miles sometimes that's a bit of a task," said Jodi Bosch, Director of the St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation. "Bowman, Hettinger, Beach, Killdeer, New England, Richardton, they've all been very supportive."

It is on track to be finished next year, but the new St. Joseph's Hospital still needs a bit more funding.

"We're looking to raise $15 million locally," Bosch explained. "To date, we've raised at least $8.3 million."

Members of the Charity Ball Committee say they hope to make a dent in that next week.

"The hospital ends up with a lot of money going towards the new project," said Tara Bieber, Charity Ball Committee Chairperson.

Tickets are already sold out for this year's event. Organizers say they're planning to break records.

"Well, we kind of shoot at a magic number of about $140,000," Bieber said. "We've been able to get close to that number the last two years, and we're hoping breaking that this year."

This year's Charity Ball is November 23rd and will once again include a social hour, auction and dance. Even though there are no tickets left, there is a waiting list. For more information, visit www.visitdickinson.com.
