House Proposes Healthcare Changes

Posted: Updated:

If you like your healthcare plan, you can keep it, period. President Obama's words have been repeated over and over since many Americans found out they are losing their health coverage. Last week, it was released that over 35,000 North Dakotans will lose their coverage.  But a bill in the House would allow them to keep their plans.

The bill, if passed, would require insurance companies to keep plans that are available today around next year, so those individuals could keep their insurance.

Representative Kevin Cramer, who is a co-sponsor of the bill says it has bipartisan support but would have some negative impacts to the Affordable Care Act.

"If in fact the vast majority of people want to keep their plan and do in fact keep their plan, which means they won't go on the Obamacare exchange. It is going to have a negative impact in terms of the financial backing of the affordable care act and so that's going to have to be dealt with in some fashion," says Cramer.

Cramer says he expects the bill to come to the floor for a vote on Friday.
