Emergency Commission Approves Disaster Funds

Posted: Updated:

Areas in southwest and south central North Dakota that suffered big losses in last month's winter storm now know how much recovery money they'll receive.  The State Emergency Commission has approved the spending requests for seven counties, which will receive more than $8 million from FEMA and state funds.

Most of the money will go to the Mor-Gran-Sou and Slope Electric Co-Ops. The National Guard says the affected areas are still a work in progress.

"Right now, the rural electric cooperatives have restored power to everyone, but that's only on a temporary basis. So what they need to do now is go back in and replace those poles with permanent poles," says Maj. Gen. David Sprynczynatyk.

The counties will decide which projects will be reimbursed.
