Tech Talk: Smart Camera

Posted: Updated:

You've probably heard of a smart phone, but what about a smart camera? Most photographers would agree the best camera you have is the one you have with you. And for many of us, that camera is a part of our cell phone. But for those looking to snap a better picture, Samsung released a new connected device.

"In this mode, it looks just like the camera," says store manager Nicole Binstock, Verizon Wireless.

But it isn't your typical camera.

"It's a smart phone and high-end camera all-in-one. So, you can use both on Verizon's high-speed broadband network," says Binstock.

The Samsung Galaxy camera runs on the Android operating system, allowing users access to many of their favorite applications.

"Just like your phone, it's going to have all of the same settings as a Samsung phone will have," says Binstock.

The smart camera boasts a 23mm wide-angle lens with 21x optical zoom and a 16.3 megapixel sensor. And it can even record high-definition video.

And for the serious photographer...

"If you want a change, like, you know, if you're really good with photography, you'll know how to set the settings on the camera. Just like any other camera, this one will have those as well," says Binstock.

Binstock says the device is still pretty new to the market, but it's getting a warm reception.  And she says everyone is amazed at how well the camera works.

The camera can be added to an existing cell phone plan for as low as five dollars per month. It can also be used with a wi-fi connection.
