Boy Cuts Hair for Cause

Posted: Updated:
Remember this guy? We spoke to Croix about a month ago about how he was planning to donate his hair to Locks of Love in memory of his aunt, who passed away from cancer.

"Last year, she died. So, I'm doing it for her today," says Croix. "And I, I like that I'm doing it for her, but it's sad that I'm going to lose all the hair."

Croix's hair has been growing for more than a year now, and even though he say's he's sad to lose his locks, he won't miss getting called a girl.

"Sometimes, it'll bug me when they call me that. So, I'm kind of happy that they won't do that anymore," says Croix.

And Croix wasn't the only one in the family who struggled with the name calling.

"As a dad, taking him to all the sports from soccer, to basketball, to baseball to golf, everybody was non-stop," says Croix's dad, John Clooten. "We finally made a shirt that said, 'I have long hair. I'm a boy. I just have really long hair.'"

But, even though the process was hard on the family, Croix's dad says he's pretty proud of his boy.

"There's no way I could have ever done this," says John. "I would have went the first time somebody called me a girl, I would have cut it off. So, he's got a lot of confidence and courage to keep it going for a good occasion."

"I've been cutting hair for a while," says hairstylist, Grace Woodae. "I've seen a lot of people come through, but it's really special because he's so young. It's really nice."

Now, he definitely looks like a boy, just with a head of hair that's about ten inches shorter.
