Shiloh Students Carol for Elderly

Posted: Updated:

Music is in the air. Shiloh Christian second graders sang at Bismarck retirement homes this week as their gift to seniors.  This afternoon they sang at the Touchmarck Retirement Community.

The seniors agreed the children made a joyful noise. Some seniors had no idea the students were even coming, and say it was a nice holiday surprise.

Dressed in Santa hats and big smiles, the students have been caroling at several retirement communities for the last two days.

"It was actually really fun. It's like, I don't know it, it was up stairs, or if it way just down the all, it was really cool. In front of everyone," says Nikyla Mauchel.

The children sang songs like Joy to the World and Silent Night. At the end of their performance, the kids had a little surprise.

"We gave out cards that we made for people. It was fun and we wished them a Merry Christmas," says second grader Kennedy Hamilton.

"We feel quite grateful. I think it's nice they take the time, after most of the people who come are very young, in comparison. And maybe, it gives them a good chance to see that all is not lost," says resident Terry Nelson.

The retirees agreed the students did a great job.

"We'd like to have you back again next year or whatever,"says Louis Hanson.

The children knew this was the last stop on their caroling tour, and they say they're looking forward to next year.

Students say they had a lot of fun performing. Since the Shiloh Christian School has various Christmas concerts and plays this month, they'll stay busy this holiday season.
