Crashes Increase During Holidays

Posted: Updated:

The holidays can be a festive time, but it also can be a dangerous time out on the roads.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, they see a boost in accidents around Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years.

Whether it's traveling for last minute gifts or rushing to a party, more and more people are speeding to get to their destination.

"But what goes hand and hand with that is people's judgment can be impaired because there consuming alcohol and that lends to the inability to differentiate between the different road conditions. So, it goes down to that and then also people need to be reminded to wear a seat belt at all times just because that's probably your best defense," says Captain Gary Orluck, North Dakota Highway Patrol.

Captain Orluck wants to remind drivers when traveling to not use cruise control during the winter months because that can cause additional challenges.
