Couple Finalizes Adoption Christmas Eve

Posted: Updated:

The presents are unwrapped and for some the Christmas tree is already down. But for one family this Christmas isn't one they can easily tuck away and forget.

At the beginning of the year, Chad Kuntz and his wife Casey Jacobson found out they were going to be parents.

"We found out in February that there was some birth parents that were interested in meeting us but we didn't meet them until April and he was born at the end of May," says Jacobson.

The couple had been going through the adoption process for about a year and says it was exciting and surreal to get the call that he was born and they could come meet their son.

"His birth mom was in a really small hospital room with a bunch of her family surrounding him and we walked in there and immediately she handed him to me and said here's your son what do you want to name him? We were just so touched and we just couldn't believe it," says Jacobson.

But even though Gus has been a part of their family since May, there was still one final step to be completed, finalizing the adoption. And on Christmas Eve they were able to do that.

"We just had her parents and my parents for the ceremony and her parents for opening gifts and tissue paper was the best gift he could get. He liked that and we just let him play with the tissue paper and the rest of the gifts that everyone got him stayed on the side," says Kuntz.

"I had actually got a onesie and it said best gift ever and I sent a picture to his birth mother with the shirt on because it really was the best gift ever that we could have gotten," Jacobson says.

They say it wasn't planned that the adoption would be finalized on the 24th, but it will be a special anniversary each year.
