Inside Business: Magi-Touch Carpet

Posted: Updated:

Running a family business isn't always easy, and keeping it going for three generations is pretty rare.

Josh Horner has been working at Magi-Touch for nine years, but he has been around the business his whole life. Horner's grandfather opened the carpet and flooring store in 1958. He now runs it with the help of his father and twin brother. He says that he loves working with family but, at times it can be stressful.

"We know outside of the store that we are still family and things happen that need to be done during business days. It's sometimes hard to determine between Dad and boss, how you should react sometimes and how you should treat him in front of employees," says Horner.

Horner says his grandfather started the business 55-years-ago in a small 1 room store on Broadway in Downtown Bismarck and it's since grown to nearly 40,000 square feet of business area.

"Our growth has been amazing in the past 3 or 4 years it was just a perfect time for us to add on and expand our store, we probably have about 20 in house employees," says Horner.

The growth of the store isn't only limited to size, they have also expanded from carpet and flooring to custom tile work, fireplaces and blinds. Horner says he thinks the general population growth in the state has influenced demand in these areas.

Magi-Touch Carpet One is located on South 9th Street in Bismarck.
