University of Mary Offers Workforce Training

Posted: Updated:

The University of Mary is responding to a growing need. Businesses looking for workforce training programs only had a few options, the biggest provider currently is  Bismarck State College.

Workforce training teaches specific skills to employees and potential employees, so they can fill available jobs and improve efficiency. UMary says if it doesn't have a specific program the company is looking for, it will develop it.

Last December the University of Mary announced its bid to step into the world of workforce training, because businesses and school's alumni had been continually contacting the school looking for help in training employees. The university has already worked with St. Alexius EMTs and has national connections.

"What we've done to offer services that are unique to us is we've done things like partnered with Microsoft Software. We are the only university in the country right now that is offering specific AX training that's not part of a degree program. And then we also are the only registered education provider in the state of North Dakota with project management institute," says Director of World Wide, Rachael Brash.

With the global connections of PMI, school officials say they can develop or find training that would best fit the business.

Since 1979, BSC has been working with North Dakota businesses and over the years, has made national connections in Energy and with the Communication Workers of America. Making the school a powerhouse in workforce training and a sizable contender in the workforce training field.

"Since 1999, across the state of North Dakota, we've served over 3,700 businesses with training to help them meet a better performance level for their employees," says Carla Hixon, BSC Continuing Education & Innovation.

BSC is part of TrainND, a statewide organization, that connects BSC with three other North Dakota colleges to offer same training to larger business that may have branches spread across the state. BSC also has the ability to connect with colleges in other states for businesses spread throughout the country.

Although both colleges offer workforce training, it depends upon the company's goals to say which school will offer the best training.
