Commission Approves Two Pipelines

Posted: Updated:

A Dickinson refinery is in the process of being built, but the Public Service Commission already approved two short pipelines for the diesel topping plant.

The Dakota Prairie Refinery, will be a 20,000 barrel refinery which will convert oil to diesel and two other bi-products. The approved pipelines will be less than a foot in diameter and carry the two bi-products.

"They're two bi-products, one is going to go to Canada to help with some of the tar sands moving those oils. The other one will go down to further markets in Chicago so those pipelines are also a way. When the refined product gets completed it's just one more avenue of different types of resources being used in the state,"says Brian Kalk, Public Service Commissioner.

Both of the pipelines will be above ground and run from the plant to the Lario Shipping rail hub next to the plant site.
