Eagles Club Gives Back to Community

Posted: Updated:

Charities that serve southwestern North Dakota are helping more people lately and funds are running dry more quickly.

Every month, the Eagles Club donates money to area organizations that request funds. One charity in particular is definitely in need of the help.

At the Amen Food Pantry there are plenty of empty boxes after an historic holiday season.

"We've just had our record month this last month in December. We gave out 12,250 pounds," says Ron Keller, Amen Food Pantry.

Those six tons of food are a huge jump for the pantry. Normally, it gives out about 4,500 pounds per month.

"We are not a supplemental food program. We are an association to meet emergency needs. And when you're giving out 12,000 pounds, we have a lot of emergency needs in this town," says Keller.

And the pantry is getting some help meeting those needs with a donation from the Dickinson Eagles Club.

"We have $29,000 worth of checks that we are going to present," says Marty Boyle, Dickinson Eagles Club Manager.

That money was split between four charities and Dickinson High School.

"One of their sayings is people helping people, and we enjoy donating this money out. The board is very good, they enjoy doing it. They're all volunteers. I think they get, the reward is giving the money out," says Boyle.

The money for the food pantry will go to use right away.

"We do need frozen stuff, we do need eggs. When we're out of those products, we have to purchase them through the pantry. This money will definitely go to help the pantry in purchasing some of those items," says Keller.

Keller says most of the people who need those items are new families moving into the community.

The Eagles Club also gave money to ABLE Incorporated, the Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Center and the new Dickinson BackPack program. The Dickinson High School wrestling team also received some to buy new mats.
