CVS to Stop Selling Tobacco

Posted: Updated:

A national pharmacy chain has decided to quit selling tobacco products.

CVS Pharmacy says it will get rid of the products in its 76-hundred stores by October 1st.

The President and CEO says it was the best decision for the company so it can promote health to its customers.

Tobacco critics says it's a good move, especially when it comes to children.

Jeanne Prom from ND Center for Tobacco Prevention says, "We know that tobacco companies target kids with their marketing. So in the future when kids go to a CVS Pharmacy and they buy something and go to check out there wont be a wall of tobacco advertising behind the clerk. That won't be there, that means fewer kids will start using tobacco and become addicted to this deadly product."

Prom says the move sets a precedent for other pharmacies to follow suit.
