Baucus Addresses Senate on Confirmation

Posted: Updated:

The U.S. Senate unanimously confirmed the appointment of Montana Senator Max Baucus to be the new ambassador to China.
The 72 year old democrat has served in the Senate for 36 years and announced last year he wouldn't be seeking re-election.
As chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, Baucus has drafted trade legislation and has traveled to China on trade missions.
"The challenges of globalization from climate change to terrorism, to economic development and education can only be addressed with good faith and a commitment to finding common ground. I am committed in my next chapter to meet these challenges. The U.S.-China relationship is one of the most important bilateral relationships in the world.  It will shape global affairs for generations," says Sen. Max Baucus.
Montana's governor will appoint Baucus' successor to serve the rest of his term.
There's some speculation that he'll appoint his Lieutenant Governor.
