Girl Scouts Begin Cookie Sale

Posted: Updated:

If you like Girl Scout cookies you're in luck, they went on sale today.

The favorites are back for $4 a box, and this year they even added a new cookie, cranberry citrus crisps.

In the past the girls have sold on average nearly 300 boxes each and some have even sold 2,000 to 3,000 boxes. The money is used by each girl scout in a variety of ways.

"It's one of the business skills that the girls learn. They get to decide what they want to do with their money and then the girls also get, I call it monopoly money or cookie dough money and they get fifteen cents per box to be able to use that to buy anything in the shop they want. So they may buy trinkets or they could actually use it for girl scout uniforms or events," says Girl Scout director Kathy Wamsley.

They expect to sell over two million boxes of cookies in the Bismarck/ Mandan area. To find out where the cookies are being sold you can visit www.gsdakotahorizons.org.
