Girl Scouts Participate in Cookie Crunch

Posted: Updated:

It's officially Girl Scout Cookie Season.

"We wanted to get the public aware that cookie sales are going on." says District Director, Kathy Wamsley.

And that, they did! Hundreds of local Girl Scouts and cookie-lovers came together for fun and games. "It's very exciting to see all the people," says Wamsley. "We had over 100 girls signed up and registered to come."

There were 3 different competitions: a cookie-launching contest, a cookie guessing game and everyone's favorite, a cookie-eating contest.

There were 11 contestants, each from local media outlets. Including KFYR-TV's Henry Blakes.

It was Capitol City Corey of Y-93, though, who came out on top in the cookie eating contest. "I didn't expect to eat that many cookies!" says Corey. But he didn't do it alone. He had a Girl Scout helper who gave him this as his strategy: "Shove 'em in his mouth!"

The event wasn't just about cookies. It was about the lessons learned when being a Girl Scout. One young lady only needed one word to describe the way being a girl scout makes her feel, "Proud."

"It's really all about the girls," says Wamsley. "To watch these girls grow throughout the cookie sale is just amazing. To see what happens with them becoming little to bit entrepreneurs."

Now, after a day full of activities, it's crunch time for these young women to sell as many cookies as possible.
