Ranchers Reimbursed Through Indemnity Program

Posted: Updated:

After waiting for a new Farm Bill, ranchers who suffered livestock losses during October's winter storm were expecting to wait even longer to receive help from the Livestock Indemnity Program. However, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has decided to expedite the program, thanks in part to a push from North Dakota Senators Heidi Heitkamp and John Hoeven.

The USDA will start accepting applications on April 14. Payments will be made on a rolling basis.

When applying, ranchers should make sure they have pictures and logs of the livestock loss, as well as veterinary reports. They can begin the process by applying to their local USDA Farm Service Agency.

Marisa DeCandido has more tonight.
