MSU Expands Entrepreneurship Academy

Posted: Updated:

Good news for entrepreneurs and young business professionals in the area. Minot State University's Severson Entrepreneurship Academy is expanding to offer more services and projects.

This will help business leaders discover new opportunities in North Dakota's Bakken region.  The Academy will conduct surveys and interviews to help area company's plan for new business ventures. The Entrepreneurship Academy will create a technology center for data collection to be a resource for start-ups, and will offer new scholarships for business students.

"Now all of a sudden the resources are coming here. So, this is a great opportunity now to put programs together to tie all this in.  To identify students, give them opportunities to excel, to be successful, and to come back and re-invest in the system.  Then pretty soon it perpetuates itself.  It gets bigger and bigger and bigger, and better and better and better," said Clint

Severson, a Minot State Alumni, and current President of Abaxis Laboratories.

"You've got to have high quality teaching and learning, the best work with faculty and staff, and then an ability to go out in the field and learn what you're dealing with, and that happens, and that happens through Vision 2013," says Minot State President Dr. David Fuller. "It certainly happens through the great grant, and the project's support we've received from Clint and Connie to make that happen."

The expansion was made possible by a $500,000 gift from MSU alumni ad Academy namesake, Clint Severson, as well as another $250,000 grant from the Higher Ed Challenge fund.

For business advice or for information on the programs provided by the Severson Entrepreneurship Academy, contact Chuck Barney, Severson Entrepreneurship Academy Director at 701-858-3019.
