Students Reflect On Presidents' Day

Posted: Updated:

It's Presidents' Day, a national holiday where governmental offices and schools are closed. Many people took advantage of the time off by going out in the sunshine, sleeping in or shopping. No doubt the time off is appreciated, but does anyone know why we celebrate the day?

Delainey, Shelby and Gracie knew why the U.S. celebrates Presidents' Day was about and agreed that it's important to know.

"Because I can think about the presidents, that let's you know they still love you. But they're still in your hearts," says student Shelby Krumwiede.

Delainey, Shelby and their little brother were all enjoying their day off in the library. Not everyone agrees that they need the day off.

Delainey Krumwiede "First of all, it's like you have to remember your presidents, and if we going to school we'd be going to learn more about presidents," Delainey Krumwiede says.

However, Gracie doesn't share Delainey's thoughts.

"I think it's a nice break, because we go to school for a long time, and we're learning a lot of stuff. So, it's a nice break," says Gracie Grinsteiner.

Gracie and many of her friends say Presidents' Day is about honoring all our nations leaders for their hard work. You can honor them best, by sledding.

Presidents' Day was originally on George Washington's actual birthday, February 22, but was moved in 1971's to create more three-day weekends for the nation's workers.
