Huff Hill Visitors Take Advantage Of Weather

This winter's frigid below-zero temperatures, haven't been ideal for spending a day on the slopes. But this Presidents' Day was a different story and even some beginners hit the hills.
 
"Yeah, it's my first time snow boarding. I'm really liking it. It's really awesome," says Nach Anderson, a snow boarder at Huff Hills.

Huff Hills isn't usually open on Mondays, but the holiday was an exception, and the owner Andy Beck says they are making up for lost days.

"The season has really been a tale of weather," said Beck. "When it's been colder out we haven't been quite as busy, and it's been tough. We've been closed a few days, which we hate to do."

Beck says that the number of lift tickets sold just on Monday doubled the total sales over the weekend. It's the busiest Presidents' Day he's seen in about six years, but he was prepared.

 "We really plan for Presidents' Day, Martin Luther King and Christmas so our staff know its coming. We have extra staff on hand, and I know the ski schools have been busy. We get ready for it, and it's something we kind of wait for every season,"says Beck.

And even with lift lines and crowded slopes, skiers say the light snow fall Sunday night created perfect conditions.
 
"It's good, the snow is really powdery, so it's pretty hard to fall," says Marshall Grant a snow boarder.

Beck says that the snow conditions this year have been ideal, but the glacial temps were what was keeping people at home.
