Dentist Visits Catholic Schools

Posted: Updated:

Sometimes getting your kids brush their teeth is a hassle. One dentist is hoping to tackle that problem. Since February is National Children's Dental Health Month, and one Bismarck dentist has set out to teach elementary students the importance of good dental health.

Dr. Renz's first stop on her school visits was at St. Mary's Elementary.

These first graders are experts on teeth. They had all the answers about good eating habits and brushing times. Some who've lost teeth have pretty cool stories.

"It was very wiggly and I was eating an apple. It was very loose. It was so loose, we had to pull it out, other wise I would swallow it," says student Bella Prokop.

Trying to hear more stories, was like pulling teeth.

I see you have lost some teeth, but you're getting new teeth. When did you lose your teeth?

"I forgot," says student Maleah Hall.

"I forgot," says student Connor Wolfer.

Dr. Renz says since she moved to North Dakota, she's noticed her young patients are dedicated to healthy teeth.

"Overall kids are excited about dental health. They're excited to brush their teeth and to do the right thing. I think, if anything, they just need a little instruction and make sure they're doing it right," says dentist Brielle Renz.

After Dr. Renz's presentation every student got a toothbrush kit complete with a toothbrush,  mouthwash, a brushing timer and more.

Dr. Reinz will also be visiting students at Shiloh, St. Anne's and Cathedral Elementary students later this week.
