Teacher Receives Teacher of the Month Award

Posted: Updated:

Learning fractions, formulas and grammar is not an easy task. At times, it can be straight up difficult. Watford City elementary first grade teacher, Nicole Brew, not only makes these difficult tasks, simpler, but students say she even makes learning, fun. Miss Brew was named KUMV's Teacher of the Month.

Miss Brew uses cooking as an enjoyable hands-on way to get students involved in the classroom and teach multiple subjects all together.

"I like to really make it hands on. We've done a lot of writing lately, and we do a lot of cooking in the classroom to learn how to write and follow procedures, which is a lot of fun, they love that. I try to tie it into everything, science and social studies, writing, we do a little math with measuring, kind of tie it all in. It's really important that learning is all together. You can see where everything applies to your writing, math, social studies," says Brew.

For first grade students, Gavin McColley and Jackson Phillips, they love how nice, fun and caring Miss Brew is.

"She's nice, and she let's us do fun things sometimes," says McColley.

"She's nice. And she doesn't yell," says Phillips.

Students usually have a favorite subject to learn, and similarly Miss Brew has a favorite subject to teach.

"I really love science and social studies. I love to travel, so I love social studies and getting to share all those experiences, and other cultures and places with my kids. They have a blast with it too," says Brew.

Students were very excited about Miss Brew's nomination for Teacher of the Month.

Miss Brew wanted to thank those who nominated her and her colleagues at Watford Elementary for all their continuous support.
