Minotauros Visits Elementary School

Posted: Updated:

Sounds of hockey sticks filled thegymnasium Wednesday morning at McKinley Elementary. While this may look like an ordinarygame, there were a few star players in it. The Minot Minotaurios were in fullforce while they were teaching children the rules of hockey.

"I love when they come in,"says Preslie Everson, 5th grader at McKinley Elementary.

They started out with some one onone drills to warm up, and then it was time to get in the game.

"To have another person or teamcome in to a school and work with kids and show how important it is to worktogether with one another is kind of a bonus for the kids," says Melissa Solper, Kindergarten Teacherat McKinley Elementary.

"Hockey is a game where oneperson can't go up and down the ice and score a bunch of goals," saysJake Johnson, Minot Minotaurio player.

When Johnson is not practicing onthe ice, he makes stops at schools throughout Minot to share his passion for the sport.

"We get out and work as a teameven not in the rink. It builds a team and helps us win games, and that's whatit's all about," says Johnson.

"There's no 'I' in 'TEAM,"says Konnor Guthrie, 4th grader at McKinley Elementary.

While the children of McKinleyElementary may feel like they're learning valuable lessons such aspassing, shooting and scoring, they're also learning life lessons that they canuse out in the community for years to come.

The Minotaurios visitsseveral different schools throughout Minotto not only teach hockey, but also to read to the children.
