Students Fundraise For D.C.

Posted: Updated:

Williston high school seniors have been working hard to raise money for a trip to Washington, D.C., this March. While it has taken a lot of planning and hard work, the students have enjoyed the process.

These students believe it's important to make the trip to D.C., because visiting the nation's capital will make them more informed.

"It's really important because most kids are very uninformed about America, and they don't know a lot about politics. It's really important to understand what you believe and who you vote for. It's very important" says senior, Darian McCormick.

"It's important students make the trip, because then they're more informed about our country, and what's going on, and how politics work and everything" says senior, Emily Monson.

Members of the group take turns planning and running a fundraiser. Senior Chauntel Bergstrom believes this has brought them closer.

"I think my favorite part is getting to work more with my classmates. Just because this is the last year I'll really get to spend with them," says Bergstrom.

Each student has their own reason for wanting to travel to D.C.

"I'm really excited to see our nation's capital and how our government actually works and just to see everything first hand," says Monson.

"I think what I'm most excited for is to see all the different monuments and how our country has grown with them," says Bergstrom.

Darian McCormick says, that earning this trip herself, has made it an experience that she'll always remember.

"It's amazing to not to have somebody pay my way. You have a lot more respect for things when you have to earn them yourself," says McCormick.

Approximately 50 seniors will attend the D.C. trip this March. The students are currently planning their ping pong tournament that will take place at the high school this weekend.
