STD Numbers On Rise

Posted: Updated:

The number of confirmed sexually transmitted disease cases in North Dakota has increased. The State Health Department says there are now 24 cases of syphilis and 471 cases of gonorrhea. STDs are preventable, so the right precautions need to be taken.

"Abstinence is the only way to be one hundred percent protected, but every time you have sex you should use protective barriers like condoms. Knowing your status, being tested often if you have multiple sex partners and then having one sex partner at a time who also is negative," says Lindsey VanderBusch, North Dakota Department of Health.

If STDs are left untreated they can cause serious health complications and even death.
